Join Community Group this Week!

Community Group Discussion Points
Community Group 5/30/12—
John 15:1-8

These are the questions that we'll be working through together in this week's Community Group. We'll be meeting at the Caylor's house.  For directions, email dawnwillenbrink@mercy-road.org  or keener_jm@sbcglobal.net Community Group begins at 6:25, and ends at 8:00. Childcare is provided—we'll see you there!

Explore (Digging in to understand the passage)
  • In verse 1, God is called a gardener, which echoes back to Genesis 2 and the Garden of Eden. What does God's role as gardener tell you about his character?
  • In verse 2, the Greek word translated "prunes" also means "cleans." How does this help you understand Jesus' statement in verse 3 that you are already clean?
  • According to Jesus, what leads to a fruitful life?
  • In verse 7, Jesus says that we can ask whatever we wish, and it will be given to us--if we remain in him. What effect does remaining in Christ have on what we ask for?
  • How do we show that we are Jesus' disciples?

Connect (Applying the passage to our lives)
  • What do you do to remain in Jesus?
  • How would you describe the fruit that your life produces?

That guy up there preaching - who is he?

If you could ask your church leaders anything, what would it be?  Where does he come from?  Why is he here?  What's the deal with all the khaki?

Mercy Road is beginning a new blog series of interviews focusing on our leadership, starting with the one and only Darden Caylor.

What questions would you ask?  What tidbits do you know that you would love to share?

Submit feedback to dawnwillenbrink@mercy-road.net to have it included or ask your questions and get them answered.

Don't worry - I keep my sources confidential ;)

Softball Correction

Not a correction as much as an elaboration

While technically, tomorrow is the last game of the season for Team SPF, Cyndi Keen let me know that there will be a make up game the following Thursday.

Just to be clear that means that neither Cyndi, nor I, were wrong.  That would never happen.

See you all tomorrow!

Calling all heroes! Set sail aboard the HMS Steadfast for an action-packed and fun-filled Bible adventure. With solid Bible teaching, VeggieTales, humor, and the notoriety of The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything—A VeggieTales Movie your kids will have an outstanding time of Bible learning.

All children begin the journey together at the Yo-Ho-Ho Opening Show where we will learn some new songs. Kids then divide into two groups—elementary and preschool children—and voyage to four different sites where the Bible lesson is taught in a unique and fun way through story, craft and games. At the end of the day, everyone will come back together for the Yo-Ho-Ho Closing Show where we will review the Bible verse and our new songs.

Children travel in crews (groups) of six children. Each crew is led by an adult or teenage shipmate.

It's time for the annual Fiesta de Mayo party!

Bring the kids and come on over and eat some tacos with us.  We've got the taco meat covered, but we still need all the toppings and sides, plus drinks.

The Pinata will ready for the kids and hopefully a few dozen Cascarones.

Prayer Series: The Book of Numbers or "Are we there, yet?"

Mercy Road Prayers

Lead Pastor, Darden Caylor's daily prayers show us that beyond begetting and smiting is the story of a broken people in desperate need of God's Grace.

With reverence, clarity and honesty, he translates Old Testament verses for our life in his daily conversation with our Lord.  In his offering we are given a connection both with God's Word and with each other as a community.

Currently praying though: The Book of Numbers
